Eeh, unless anyone else is stupid enough to try shooting at us, I think so. I can probably find your idiot crewmates in a few minutes, too...if that big green plant isn't running around back and forth too much...

[She turns to head for the shore, as planned. Only there's a dark shadow there, all of a sudden, casting gloom over everything, and she looks up.

[NOT A FUCKING CHANCE, GIRLFRIEND. Thanks for the help earlier, but she's no where near strong enough to combat those things.]

[She could probably do damage with her large hollows, but it'd still take maybe three to down even one of those behemoths. Ugh, if she just had a place to hide her body, she could go wild with no hesitation, but she doesn't trust Nami enough to look after it.]

[Excellent point. She'd suggest vanishing under cover of mirage, but Nami has a bad feeling that won't work on a machine. Goddammit.

It's okay, I have a cunning plan. It's called: sprinting like hell. In a different direction. It can only follow one of them, right? If it goes for Perona, Nami might be able to slow it down without getting fried. If it goes after Nami, well.

Cross that bridge when we come to it, okay.]

[Sadly for Nami, she is the real target here - the Straw hats and their crew are undesirable no. 1 (or high up on the list) as far as the Government is concerned, and Perona doesn't really register more than an everyday pirate. She's not a priority, and of the two evils, she's the lesser half. So, the Pacifista's efforts and gaze are turned to Nami right as one opens its mouth to shoot a beam at her.

Or, well, it would have done that, had a big, marshmallowy-plump ghost not bitten down on one of its legs and promptly exploded. The Pacifista, now missing one leg, teeters before crashing sideways right as its lets loose a shot, downing at least another two or three of its kind.]

...Ah. That went better than I expected. [YAY? \8D/]

[She flinches at the bite, because having met Kuma, she half expects blood to fly. But nope, this is just a robot, pure and simple, leg sparking as it crumbles.]

Nice. [Hey, she's not even being sarcastic. You slowed it down. It gives her time to lob a few dark clouds in the air, letting them swirl into a lovely electrical storm. It might not go down as a result, but it'll sure as hell take damage.]

[That stick is definitely something special, and has a lot of neat tricks. Honestly, Perona got lucky - she maybe not have gotten with someone overly powerful, but this pirate woman is intelligent and strong in a different sort of way. Still, those pacifistas are coming in droves, and if they don't figure out a way to short-circuit them soon, then--wait.]

Oi, woman. How strong can you make those lightning strikes?

[ Lightning courses in the retina-searing crackle of several lines of blue-white snapping between roiling black clouds and the ground and everything in between, but somewhere in between the crackle there's a boom too sharp for thunder, too metallic for an explosion--

--and something silhouetted by the flashing meteorological light show sends the hulking mass of a Pacifista hurtling forward at them, nearly bowed in half the wrong way for any living being's spine, sending a beam blasting erratically into the sky.

Dropping to the ground in a crouch, Luffy spins right back around and starts sprinting after another of their pursuers, totally oblivious to the fact that he just kinda... may have... sorta... put their lives in danger of being crushed.

PLEASE DUCK???? ]

[Hope you weren't expecting an answer, Perona. Much as Nami might breathe a sigh of relief that her captain is obviously close by-- making one hell of a dramatic entrance to boot-- it's pretty short-lived.]

[Good god. Perona had never seen, first hand, the sheer power the Straw Hat captain possessed, and she's taken aback when she finally gets a glimpse of it. He seemed like such a half-wit...it was hard to think this man went toe-to-toe with the shichibukai, and even defeated a number of them. Though witnessing his strength like this...it's a bit more believable now.

Though that machine seems to be closing in real fast. In their general direction.

This has Luffy landing a distracted blow on his next target, since punching and turning around to look at something else is apparently too much multitasking for a man whose synapses are probably also rubber, and potentially insulated.

So is that huge smile, when he realizes Nami's here, and has a friend--wait...

Oh yeah, and with that Pacifista rearing up behind him, to boot. ]

There you are! I've been looking all over for you!

[ No why would he apologize for giving the two of them heart attacks, there's nothing wrong at all THEY'RE ALL FINE. Luffy hops to one side as the Pacifista fires off a blast right next to him. ]

She staggers to keep her balance as one of them crashes into the ground behind her, darts a glance, and takes off, running in Luffy's direction.] We need to get out of here!

[Though she's long past the point of just cowering behind her captain when need be, she's not really sure what she can do beyond this. These things are still above her paygrade. Won't stop her from trying again if that's all they can do-- the climatact sparks with electricity. Considering options.]

[Why is this Perona's life? Why does she have to be constantly put in harms way when deal with overpowered morons that can't seem to not run headlong into the lion's den? Why is it that she's always in the wrong place at the wrong time? It's not fair...she hates you all...

Rubbing her head, Perona reaches for her poor top hat just as a a piece of shrapnel from Luffy's earlier target lands where her hand was mere seconds ago.]

[At least Perona has the common sense to gather her wits - and her belongings - and literally soar to her feet. While her common sense is screaming to just ollie out and leave these two assholes to it, amid the calamity, Perona knows it's safest near the heavy-hitters. You call, shitty straw hats, Perona's only still here because you make decent meat shields.]

[ NOT INTENTIONALLY.

Unless you mean as a consequence of trying to introduce these technological monstrosities to a whole new world of pain, in which case... okay, yeah, his bad. But he didn't want these guys just running amok where they might actually hurt a member of his crew!

[ So there's a barrage of punches almost too fast to see but for the curls of steam sent scattering in its wake, and Luffy throws back one arm to grasp some fixture that will drag the rest of him to within arm's reach of the navigator, while it's her lightning that's keeping the Pacifista at bay.

He puts one arm around her waist like it's the most natural thing in the world to do, the way one rests an umbrella against one's shoulder before setting out into a rainy day. She's important to him and he wouldn't dream of taking off without her in tow. It's Perona he's pausing to look at. ]

Hey. We taking her with us?

[ Your call, Nami. ]

[Normally Luffy's sudden rubbery hands on her person tends to lead to tensing, flailing, and screeching as he takes off for parts unknown in the most ridiculous way possible, but today? Hell no. She only reaches up to brace one hand against his shoulder, climatact still swept out with the other.

Man, she just doesn't hate Perona that much. She helped.] We're taking her with us. [Not even joking. If she wasn't casually spitting out a whole bunch of little lightning traps, she might have been sorely tempted, but otherwise priorities.]

[Those two are having a conversation, and Perona's still reeling a little, not quite sure what to make of this development. It's way better that Straw Hat is here - there's no denying he's a great shield to hide behind - but at the same time she has no relationship with him; Perona owes nothing to him and vice versa.

It's only when she comes up in conversation does Perona finally tune in and look away from the remaining Pacifistas. She'd been devising an escape strategy in her head, but her thoughts get shot between her huffs.]

Eh? Hey! Don't treat me like some sad sack you can just carry around and take wherever you go! [A blast from behind makes Perona shriek, clasping her hands over her hat, eyes tightly shut.] Aaah, b-b-but you can take me along if you're escaping!!

[Pls. ;A;]

[ Yeah. Yeah, Nami, he knows at any other time he might have earned her fists drubbing him upside his rubbery head, but this is important, and not even important on the level of chasing after a new and unusual beetle, this is just a level above that one in importance.

It's not that he doubts his ability to take these guys down.

It's that the longer they're here the greater the chances Nami might get hurt, because he can't really watch her back from every possible side, and there's a lot more of them. He immediately rounds on Perona, taking a step forward even as she begins to protest.

The blast drowns out the Shut up!, though it's pretty obvious that's what he said.

Rude.

In any case, there's an arm flung out to coil around her waist, whip-quick, intending on tugging her over to his side, hitch them both up in his arms, and begin running like hell, just picks a direction that isn't 'At the Pacifistas' and makes a break for it.

[Just a level above? Rude, Luffy. Nami takes to this sudden running by twisting around until she can flop her elbows over Luffy's shoulder and prop herself up like she's done this way too many times before (spoilers: she has) and flatout ignores Perona being a pissypants, choosing to answer Luffy with just a level below murderous sweetness. Because wow, what a question.]

Oh, you know. Marines, pirates, not mixing. Famous 400 million bounties just lazing around. I sort of tripped over her while I was running screaming for the ship and she won't leave me alone.

Behind them there's a flare of light as one of the Pacifista gets caught in a lightning trap, followed by a lot of unhealthy metal shrieking noises. Good. Hope it did some damage and not just pissed it off.]

[Were this not a battle scene, and had Luffy not all but yo-yo'd her to his side (cue the indignant yelp from Perona), she would have reminded him with a few of her negative hollows just who he was talking to, but there are more pressing matters to attend to at this very moment. Like setting up a troop of her mini hollows to line the ground where the pacifistas were closing in on them. They act as miniature landmines, blowing off feet the instant they are stepped on and detonated. Not enough to down the things for good, but it makes movement a heck of a lot tougher... Together with Nami's lightning traps, chasing down the trio of pirates is not going to be easy in the least.

Snorting, Perona does much the same as Nami did - twisting around in Luffy's grip to a more comfortable position (she too has been in this situation and position with Zoro a least a handful of times...) and flips the navigator off as she sticks out her tongue. Don't get uppity, pirate woman.]

Eeeeh?! Who won't leave who alone?! You ran like a coward the first chance you got! If you morons didn't get lost in the first place, I wouldn't have to deal with this whole situation! [Enjoy the commentary, Luffy, Perona has a lot to say.]

[ There's a particular cast to Luffy's smile now, the sort when he and Usopp are up to mischief, the kind that betrays him immediately whenever there's a kind of deception involved in a prank, but there he is, grinning like a fool. ]

My arm's getting pretty tired! If you keep complaining so much about my crew--

[ He might just be catching the tip of his tongue between his teeth as he grins, chortling while running. ]

--I might drop you!

[OMG woman. And to Luffy she adds:] Oh, go ahead. Just remember if you have to leave someone behind, Perona stands out more anyway. We can use her as a distraction.
